Introduction of School

Established in September 2005, the School of Public Policy and Management of Guangxi University is a backbone of Guangxi University. Its predecessor can be traced back to the Law and Politics Department of the School of Law and Business in the early days. The public management major originated from the two specialized courses of administrative management and public relations established by the Philosophy Department in the 1980s. In 1999, a new major in Tourism Management was established, and in 2002, a new major in Public Administration was established. In 2019, this major was selected as one of the first national first-class undergraduate major construction sites and is a featured specialty of higher education institutions in Guangxi.

The school has four departments/teaching and research rooms: Administrative Management, Public Policy (Public Administration), Labor and Social Security, and Land Resource Management. We have the " Research Center for Regional Social Management and Innovation ", as well as research institutions such as the Research Institute for Green Development and Border Governance, Institute for Emergency Management and Digital Governance, Research Center for ASEAN Social Organization and Public Management, Public Management Teaching Laboratory of Guangxi Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, Research Center for Land and Resources Management and Public Policy of GXU, Social Survey Research Center of GXU , and Research Institute for Human Resources in Public Organizations of GXU.

The school has first-class doctoral program, master’s program and MPA program of public administration. The doctoral program and master's program offer six research directions, including administrative management, public policy, public organization and social governance, land resource management, green development and border governance, emergency management and digital governance.

The discipline of public administration is currently a key discipline in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and is a key construction area of Guangxi University's "211 Project" and "Comprehensive Strength Enhancement Project of Central and Western Universities". It has formed distinct characteristics and advantages in rural revitalization, non-governmental organizations, ecological civilization governance, regional social governance innovation, green development, and border governance.


The school currently has 66 faculty members, including 46 full-time teachers and 37 teachers with doctoral degrees (accounting for 86%); 16 professors (accounting for 34.8%), 17 associate professors (accounting for 36.9%), and 13 lecturers (accounting for 28.3%); 10 doctoral supervisors and 36 master's supervisors; 9 with overseas degrees. We have one specially appointed professor as a "Changjiang Scholar" by the Ministry of Education, one outstanding young talent from the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee, one selected for the "New Century Excellent Talents" support program of the Ministry of Education, and two outstanding scholars of Guangxi. At present, the school has formed a complete talent training system of bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees, providing a large number of well-developed students with public management skills for the country and society. In recent years, we have undertaken more than 40 national-level projects supported the National Social Science Fund and the National Natural Science Fund, including 1 major project from the Ministry of Education, 6 key projects from the National Social Science Fund, more than 60 projects from the National Social Science Fund, the National Natural Science Fund, and provincial- and ministerial- level projects, and more than 200 commercial projects; over 40 academic works and over 1200 academic papers published. Among them, more than 40 papers have been published in SSCI journals, and more than 100 papers have been published in CSSCI journals such as Management World, CASS JOURNAL OF POLITICAL SCIENCE, Sociological Study, China Public Administration, and Academic Monthly. More than 60 papers have been reprinted in full text by Xinhua Digest, China Social Science Digest, and other magazines; Received over 40 provincial- and ministerial-level teaching and research achievement awards.

The School of Public Policy and Management leverages GXU's substantial resources and focuses on the major needs for high-quality economic and social development at both the national and Guangxi levels. Aligning with Guangxi University's goal of building a high-level research university with regional characteristics, the School has, through the continuous efforts of its faculty and students, developed research features and disciplinary strengths centered around green,” “ethnic, and border themes. The quality of talent cultivation, scale of education, and social influence are all steadily improving. Currently, the School aims to become a leading institution in public administration domestically, striving to enhance its overall strength and showcase the distinctive characteristics of public administration at Guangxi University with outstanding results.
