Recently, the Ministry of Education announced the recipients of the Ninth Outstanding Achievement Awards for Scientific Research in Higher Education (Humanities and Social Sciences). Professor Long Hualou from School of Public Policy and Management was awarded third prize for his work, Land Use Transitions and Rural Restructuring in China.

The book, Land Use Transitions and Rural Restructuring in China (Chinese title: 《中国土地利用转型与乡村重构》), authored by Long Hualou, a Fellow of the British Academy of Social Sciences and a Distinguished Professor under the Ministry of Education's .

Program at the School of Public Policy and Management, represents the final research outcome of the National Natural Science Foundation of China's key project, Study on Land Use Transition and Its Environmental Effects in the Process of Rural Urbanization in China: A Case Study of the Huang-Huai-Hai Plain (Project No.: 41731286). Published by Springer Nature in May 2020, the book received the Springer Nature China New Development Award in 2021. The research employs an interdisciplinary approach, integrating management science, geography, and economics to explore land use transitions and rural restructuring. It also seeks to identify ways to promote the integrated development of urban and rural areas and the successful implementation of the rural revitalization strategy through the sustainable use of land resources, aligned with the understanding of policymakers at various levels.

Profile of Professor Long Hualou

Professor Long Hualou is a Second-Tier Professor in the New Track at the School of Public Policy and Management, Guangxi University. He joined Guangxi University in 2020 after working at the Institute of Geographic Sciences and Natural Resources Research at the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He was appointed as a Distinguished Professor under the Ministry of Education's Program, focusing on research in agriculture, rural areas, and rural revitalization. Professor Long has been devoted to the study of urban-rural development and land use transitions, achieving numerous significant outcomes in the field. In 2023, he was elected a Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in the UK.
