The School of Public Policy and Management at Guangxi University traces its origins back to the Department of Law and Politics under the College of Law and Business, which was established at the inception of Guangxi University in 1928. The public administration disciplines were first introduced by the Department of Philosophy in the 1980s. In 1997, the School of Social Sciences and Management was founded on the basis of the Department of Philosophy, and it was renamed the School of Public Policy and Management in 2005. Currently, we have four departments/teaching and research rooms: Administrative Management, Public Policy (Public Administration), Labor and Social Security, and Land Resource Management. We have the " Research Center for Regional Social Management and Innovation ", as well as research institutions such as Public Management Teaching Laboratory of Guangxi Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center, the Research Institute for Green Development and Border Governance, Research Center for ASEAN Social Organization and Public Management, Research Center for Land and Resources Management and Public Policy of GXU, Social Survey Research Center of GXU , and Research Institute for Human Resources in Public Organizations of GXU. We have developed distinctive research characteristics and disciplinary strengths in areas such as rural revitalization, ecological civilization governance, regional social governance innovation, green development and borderland governance, and non-governmental organizations.

Faculty Members:We currently have 66 faculty members, including 46 full-time teachers and 37 teachers with doctoral degrees (accounting for 80.4%); 16 professors (accounting for 34.8%), 17 associate professors (accounting for 36.9%), and 13 lecturers (accounting for 28.3%); 10 doctoral supervisors and 36 master's supervisors; 9 with overseas degrees. We have 2 national-level talents and national-level young talents, 1 selected for the "New Century Excellent Talents" support program of the Ministry of Education, and 2 outstanding scholars of Guangxi2 Bagui scholars,5  Bagui youth scholars .

Scientific Research Achievements: In recent years, we have undertaken more than 40 national-level projects supported the National Social Science Fund and the National Natural Science Fund, including 1 major project from the Ministry of Education, 6 key projects from the National Social Science Fund, more than 60 projects from the National Social Science Fund, the National Natural Science Fund, and provincial- and ministerial- level projects, and more than 200 industry-collaborative research projects; over 40 academic works and over 1200 academic papers published. Among them, more than 40 papers have been published in SSCI journals, and more than 100 papers have been published in CSSCI journals. More than 60 papers have been reprinted in full text by Xinhua Digest, China Social Science Digest, and other magazines; Received over 40 provincial- and ministerial-level teaching and research achievement awards.

Program Strengths:We have a complete personnel training system, including first-class doctoral programs, master’s programs and MPA programs of public administration. The discipline of public administration is currently a key discipline in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, and is a key construction area of Guangxi University's "211 Project" and "Comprehensive Strength Enhancement Project of Central and Western Universities". In 2019, this major of Public Utilities Management was selected as one of the first national first-class undergraduate major construction sites. In the 2021 ShanghaiRanking’s Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU), the Public Administration discipline of Guangxi University ranked within the top 18% nationally, and its Public Utilities Management program achieved an A-grade rating. We offer four provincial-level first-class courses, including Public Policy, and one provincial-level ideological and political demonstration course, Social Research Methods. Currently, we have a total of 1,462 students enrolled, including 679 undergraduates, 930 master's students, and 55 doctoral students. The ratio of undergraduate to master's students reflects the student structure typical of a research-oriented institution.

We have established a comprehensive talent training system that integrates undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs. We foster collaboration among the university, government, and society, combining education, innovation, and research to mutually promote professional development and talent cultivation.

Emphasis on Interdisciplinary Approaches

We promote the integration of theoretical courses with practical teaching. Significant achievements have been made in curriculum development, teaching and research teams, and reforms in talent training models. We also have developed distinct research strengths in areas such as rural revitalization, ecological civilization governance, borderland governance, non-governmental organizations, and regional social governance innovation. These research outcomes are widely applied in teaching.

Diverse Projects

Through government-university co-developed courses, lectures, and research-oriented internships, we enhance the integration of theoretical and practical teaching, innovation and entrepreneurship education, and scientific research in talent cultivation.

Training Objectives:The program aims to serve the nation, the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area, and the "Belt and Road" initiative. We focus on cultivating leading talents with "social responsibility, innovative spirit, practical ability, legal awareness, and international vision." The program strives to build a comprehensive education system, fostering multi-dimensional, multi-channel, and all-round development of compound public management talents who meet local development and societal needs.

Training Objectives:The doctoral program in Public Administration aims to cultivate high-level talents with excellent ideological and political capability, and a mastery of the theoretical system, professional knowledge, and research methods of public administration.
